Copenhagenize.com - Winter Cycling from Colville Andersen on Vimeo.
Scenes from a cycling life in Copenhagen during the winter. Featuring some of the 400,000 citizens who choose the bicycle throughout the winter.
Typically, after I edited this and put it up onto Vimeo, it REALLY started snowing. I'll do a redux at some point with the new footage.
There are a couple of shots of small tractors clearing and salting the bike lanes. When it snows heavier, they are recruited and assist the exisiting bike lane snowploughs.

Love it!
What did you film it with - the low frame rate is great on this film, and I was wondering if it came from the camera, or you've created it in editing.
thanks. it's a sony HD camera.
Where are the ski goggles?
on the ski slopes :-)
The guy turning the corner between 2:54 and 2:59 brought back fond memories of cyclists in the Netherlands with that curious forward-backward, side to side bobbing motion they make on the bigger, older one speed bikes. There are a couple of others doing that in this clip, but not as much as that typical Dutch cyclist's body movement.
BTW, I have to ask: are there any Winther bikes in there? ;-)
Thank you for sharing this. The mood is so bleak here in America at the moment that it's heartening just to hear a happy pop song and see people out enjoying themselves.
Again, thanks for your efforts.
Hi, great movie, thanks :)
Do you have any advice on where I might find statistics about how many people cycle in Copenhagen during winter (or the source of the 400,000 figure you mentioned?) I'm doing a school assignment on cycling in the snow. Thanks!
Thanks, all.
Gemma, the source is the City of Copenhagen. 500,000 cyclists cycle each day in Copenhagen. 36% of the population.
During the winter, 80% of them continue to ride.
Your source, if you need to quote it, is Copenhagenize.com.

I've seen several Winthers around Copenhagen, and I usually encounter them on my morning commute from Island's Brygge (in the east) to near Nørrboro Station. Mostly they are just getting in my way because I ride a recumbent trike, and tend to be one of the faster riders on that route (Thank goodness for the new wider cycle-path crossing the little lakes on Nørrebrogade/Dronning Louises Bro).
But when they are not slowing the traffic down, Winthers are decent people-movers. :)
