Estonian Bicyles on Celluloid

Our fine friends over at Estonia Cycle Chic posted this clip from a famous [for Estonians] film featuring a character who pedals about on his bicycle. Nipernaadi, from 1983. Lovely music, too.

Good choice. The clip is indeed strangely compelling. The stillness of it, the tableau landscape in which the character finds his place... most of the time.

I liked the specially the shot where he is close and seems thoughtful, perhaps lost, and then turns his head as the road ahead comes into focus.

It invites deciphering of a puzzle. But perhaps there is no neat filmic puzzle. Perhaps it's just the loose ends of life, elegantly presented. mike
