Bicycle Medicine

Bicycle Medicine
In my lecture about Four Goals for Promoting Urban Cycling [I'm off to Brno, Czech via Vienna today] I highlight all the amazingly positive aspects about cycling and its effect on public health, pollution and society in general.

I call it A Multi-vitamin Viagra pill for the urban landscape.

I thought I'd play around with some graphic design last night and present cycling as a pharmaceutical.

Hmm.... Czech society is over-sexualized and not gender-democratic, and, e.g. "Club Viagra", Viagra this, Viagra that is everywhere.

I was thinking, "How is this going to attract women cyclists?"...

If the effect last longer than four hours, do you have to call your doctor? :-)

It's too bad men always have to play on the hard-on theme. Can we get something straight here - all women assume that men have penises and get erections. We've always known that. we don't need to be reminded constantly with your off color jokes. Honestly, it seems like men never get over the fact that they have that laughable rigamarole between their legs. I feel sorry for you.

So now we are not even allowed to ride a bicycle without having to think about your need for an erection?

...way too male! apart from which i possess an aversion to any strategies that ape 'big pharma'

I think it needs a warning- Not for use with prophylactic helmets. May cause sudden change in self esteem. Possible interaction with other people may occur.

As to guys riding around with... a spare top tube... it provides an interesting mental picture ; )

Since I read your blog, I always thought one way to market biking would be by insisting on 'meeting people'. I have a friend who always complains about being too shy meeting girls, while I am (was) also shy but keep having conversation with people while riding (both men and girls). + there is an instant common topic and you are the nice guy who thinks about the planet, especially in a consumption oriented-city like Brussels.
Your design reminded me that, great idea!

So far you've been serving a really important function, but, seriously, I think you're losing it.

For external use? Boy, that sure clears a lot up!

There is a great video about re-cycling bikes in Bristol, UK. Check it out at www.vimeo.com/bristolbike

Maybe leave it as a multi-vitamin (ie just scrap the viagra part).

I'm male (not alpha, maybe delta) and I did find it amusing, but some of the commenters above clearly didnt, and offending people probably isnt good positive cycling promotion.

the phallic focus here reinforces the constant objectification of women on your "sister" site.

get over your penis (and yourself) already.

Aren't you forgetting the fact that cycling causes male infertility?

riding narrow racing saddles has been shown in some studies to be detrimental to sperm production. fortunately, most of us ride saddles like these
