I live in Vancouver -- and this is absolutely brilliant -- it completely sums up the anger and outrage by some drivers and people against bicycle infrastructure...pure gold this is!
In Colorado, we had a candidate running for Governor who said that encouraging biking was a U.N. conspiracy. A tea partier and a Republican, he was trounced in the general election. If biking wins, the hippies win and take over the world --- finally.
Destroy the automobile's dominance and you destroy God, the American way, and capitalism. That is why there are certain sectors of society who are determined to crush what they consider a plague and a socialist conspiracy.
Locally, when we have meetings with the county commissioners, the subject of bicycle hate almost alway comes up. The bicylists have taken over the mountains and apparently must be eradicated like vermin and insects.
This is in Boulder County Colorado which many people mistakenly believe is enlightened. If this is so, I hate to think what it is like elsewhere. It is not just Guns, Gays, and God. Add cars.
I meant to ask this earlier, but does anyone know the title of the original, which is apparently a movie about the fall of Berlin to the Soviet Army in April of 1945.
In Germany the traffic minister of the state of thuringia demands helmet law for cyclists. The federal traffic minister and the ministers of the states are together on a conference discussing a helmet law for Germans cyclists as ADFC, the German cyclists federation, reports today.
Interesting, but the opposite is true, if a person wishes to wear a helmet: they aren't lesser cyclists either. They do not represent a "conservative" group that's trying to discourage cycling either.
Major change to a less car-dominant culture takes a long time. Even among regular cyclists one has to educate. Yesterday I clarified for a local Vancouver cyclist that the city spent less than $3 million on 2 major separated bike lanes that go into and through the downtown core in 2010. (She erroneously thought it was $25 million.) I hate to think how much misinformation is out among the general public!
But I agree the level of anger by some people at cyclists in general, can be puzzling. Or at least, scorn. Scorn usually based on seeing bikes as a poor man's recreational toy/ less powerful vehicle.
I'll be asking someone what the German dialogue is all about. I know him well for those of you who know me.
I hope people from Europe, Australasia and other parts of North America, see some good things in Vancouver, BC next year.
Note: I was in Copenhagen last year, though not at the conference itself.
Now come on. You know darn well its not fair to compare your opponents to Hitler unless they really have dehumanized an entire group of human beings and killed them. Like, for example, the abortionists (aka "pro choice" movement) has.

What an amazing and hilarious video. Now I know who's been training all the idiots that think cyclists shouldn't be on the streets.
Of course there are cyclists weaving in and out of traffic! That's the point of riding a bike in a city isn't it?

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Downfall_%28film%29 - it was a popular meme last year.
. . . the helmet laws:
